Therapy for Gay, Bi & Queer Men Seeking Clarity, Confidence, and Connection

Grounded, trauma-informed support for anxiety, sexuality, open relationships, intimacy, and the patterns that keep repeating.

I’m Dr. Scott Huckaby, a clinical psychologist specializing in the emotional and relational lives of gay, bi, and queer men. I help clients navigate anxiety, intimacy, sexuality, trauma histories, open relationships, and the patterns that make connection feel complicated. My approach is grounded, steady, and deeply attentive to the ways identity, desire, emotional attachment, and lived experience shape our mental health.

For over a decade, I’ve supported adults through trauma recovery, anxiety disorders, relationship challenges, and the intersection between emotional and sexual wellbeing. Many of my clients come to me because they want to understand themselves more clearly, communicate with more intention, build healthier relationships, or work through patterns of shame, overthinking, or people-pleasing. I bring a direct yet warm style to therapy — collaborative, nonjudgmental, and aimed at making meaningful, lasting change.

My clinical background is rooted in evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and attachment-based and trauma-informed approaches. I integrate these frameworks with a deep understanding of LGBTQ identity development, sexual health, jealousy, non-monogamy, and the emotional dynamics that arise in modern relationships.

Before establishing my private practice, I served as Lead Clinician and Clinical Director of the Trauma Recovery Program at Kaiser Permanente Oakland. I completed an APA-accredited postdoctoral residency at Kaiser Permanente and an APA-accredited predoctoral residency at the New York Harbor VA Medical Center. I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP–Stanford Psy.D. Consortium and hold a B.A. from Stanford University.

Today, I provide individual therapy for adults across California via secure telehealth. My practice is private-pay, and I offer superbills for clients who wish to use out-of-network benefits. If you’re seeking a therapist who can hold emotional depth while understanding the nuances of LGBTQ identity, sexuality, and relational complexity, I invite you to reach out for a consultation.
